The Austrian Fresh Egg Producers’ Association (EZG Frischei) has been working to benefit local producers, traders and consumers of fresh eggs since 1998. We ensure fair production conditions, the highest quality standards and secure acceptance.
EZG Frischei represents the interests of local egg producers primarily by setting fair prices, regularly billing egg deliveries and paying out egg money on time.
The Austrian Fresh Egg Producers Association invoices its members’ egg deliveries fortnightly or monthly using a billing program specially created for this purpose. An individual surcharge and deduction system allows billing to be as transparent as possible for everyone involved. The basis for this is the price quotation that has existed since 1999. In addition, EZG Frischei constantly monitors the creditworthiness of its business partners in order to be able to react quickly to problems or failures and thus offer its members maximum security.
EZG Frischei was founded in 1998 as a platform for the Austrian egg industry in order to better respond to consumers’ increasing quality awareness and increased concentration in the food trade. We have always relied on partnership-based cooperation between producers, retailers and politicians. We are proud that in recent years we have managed to create an optimal market structure and a future-oriented environment for our fresh egg producers by establishing strict animal welfare guidelines, a precise declaration of origin and a targeted information strategy. A correct and important activity that ultimately benefits our customers in retail and the catering industry as well as all consumers.
Eggs from EZG Frischei’s partner companies not only meet legal standards, but are also produced under even stricter quality criteria. All EZG Frischei member companies produce eggs as part of the AMA quality seal program, which stands for origin, quality and control, which anyone can also check using the producer code in the Austrian egg database.
Furthermore, the laying hen farmers only use soy (one of the most important components of the laying hen feed) from the European Danube region and thus protect the environment. The EZG Frischei supports its members in implementing the new requirements, from the ban on conventional cage farming, to the purchase of individual egg identification devices, to switching feed from conventional to GMO-free to Danube soy feeding.

A functioning alignment of interests between farmers and packing centers, retailers and consumers is the best guarantee for a functioning market. EZG Frischei is doing everything it can to ensure that the future in Austria remains the right and that high-quality products continue to be produced in economically successful companies.
The EZG Frischei takes over the coordination of the meetings of the marketing commission, in which a large number of representatives from farmers and packing centers take part.
EZG Frischei is the central contact for everyone involved in the daily process, from the implementation of the quality specifications in the company to the delivery of the eggs to the relevant packing centers through to correct billing. Through diplomatic mediation, it has already been able to achieve many compromises in line with the wishes of consumers. Examples of this include the switch from conventional cage farming to alternative forms of farming, the implementation of individual egg labeling on farms, or the switching of feeding the laying hens to GMO-free and subsequently even to Danube soy feed.
A key area of responsibility of the Austrian Fresh Egg Producers Association is to provide its members with current market information and the provision of relevant services. The prerequisite for this is ongoing market observation and comprehensive know-how in all market-relevant areas
In addition to the 14-day egg market report, all member companies receive free and regular information on price quotations and other current topics such as changes in the law, new guidelines or feed prices. To this end, EZG Frischei is in regular contact with various official and private organizations in the egg sector as well as with marketers and other domestic and foreign market participants.
Due to their excellent market knowledge, representatives of EZG Frischei are often called upon by the AMA, the Chambers of Agriculture or the Ministry of Agriculture for advice, the creation of guidelines and the development of funding programs. EZG Frischei organizes expert discussions for producers and takes over the handling of epidemic insurance. EZG Frischei helps solve operational problems and works out compromises between the packing center and the farmer. The EZG Frischei companies can freely choose pullet and feed suppliers, stable companies and operating resources.
