About the Company

State Grid Co., Ltd. It was founded on December 29, 2002. It is a wholly state-owned company established under the Companies Law, directly managed by the central government, with a registered capital of 829.5 billion yuan. Main activity: Investment, construction and operation of power grids that are relevant to national energy security and a super-large, key state enterprise that is the lifeblood of the national economy.

The company’s field of activity covers 26 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) in my country. The electricity supply covers 88% of the country’s surface area, and the power supply population exceeds 1.1 billion. Taking investment, construction and operation of power grids as its core businesses, State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid, or SGCC) supplies power to a population of over 1.1 billion, with its service area covering 88 percent of China’s territory. Carrying out business in 51 countries around the world, State Grid successfully invested in and operated 13 backbone energy network projects in 10 countries and regions. State Grid is accelerating the construction of a new power system in China and striving to be the pioneer, leader and promoter of clean energy and low-carbon transformation in order to better serve the country’s goal of peaking carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.

State Grid’s overseas assets total RMB320 billion. All of its overseas projects have been operated safely and steadily, well serving and promoting local economic and social development.

SGCC has been playing an active role on the international stage. It has organized high-level international energy conferences such as the International Conference on Renewable Energy Development and Technology in Germany, the Conference on Renewable Energy Technology in Portugal, and the Sub-forum on Transition of Power System at the third International Forum on Energy Transition in Suzhou, China. SGCC has signed renewable energy cooperation framework agreements with Electricite de France (EDF), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Deutsche Energie-Agentur (DENA), Energinet.dk, and Redes Energeticas Nacionais SGPS SA (REN). It has conducted professional exchanges with internationally renowned energy enterprises such as Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO).

Smart Meter Project in Saudi Arabia
It is a major project implemented by Saudi Arabia to realize its Vision 2030 and an integral part of the country’s efforts to build smart grid and smart cities. The project has installed 5 million smart meters independently developed and manufactured in China, which is the largest number of smart meters deployed in a single time in the world. It also marks the first major use of China’s power consumption data collection system in an overseas market.


Off-grid Solar Energy Project in Ethiopia
It is the first of its kind in East Africa. The smart off-grid photovoltaic system is adopted to convert Africa’s abundant solar energy resources into electricity. The project promotes the utilization of local clean energy and helps improve local people’s livelihood. As one of the first demonstration projects of the World Bank Lighting Africa program, it is of great significance and has a demonstration effect.


National Grid Upgrading Project in Egypt

It is the first contracted project of production capacity cooperation between China and Egypt, and the largest power transmission project in Egypt. The project solves the problem of “insufficient supply” in Egypt and comprehensively enhances the safety of the overall structure of the national power grid. It is of great significance to the economic and social development and the rational use of power energy in the country.
